WEEKLY SCRIPTURE FOCUS

When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Luke 2:15-20

WORSHIP FOCUS

Worship God today as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

SUMMARY OF PRAYER

Father, forgive me for those times when I have lived as through this world were the only kingdom. Forgive me for those times when I have not anticipated Your return; when I have not hoped in You. Give me the wisdom to live for Your kingdom. Fill this world with the knowledge of Who You are and what You have done, and give me a longing for the day when I will see You face to face.

Monday, Day 1 - Just When You Think You've Arrived

DAILY SCRIPTURE

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."

Matthew 2:1-2 (NIV)

DAILY THOUGHT

Looking toward a new year puts many of us in an introspective frame of mind. What things do we need to do in order to have it all together, to really arrive? Doesn't everyone eventually arrive?

Perhaps the events of today's Scripture passage were one of those times for Mary and Joseph when they thought they had finally arrived at the place that God was taking them. By now some time had passed since the baby's birth. There had been time for them to experience the total life change that a newborn brings — the late night feedings and frequent diaper changes.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Then the visitors came. What an overwhelming scene this must have been for the new parents — kings worshipping the King. Do you think they might have thought that this was what their life would be like with this Child?

In what area do you feel that you have finally arrived at the place to which God has lead you? How can you continue to be open to next steps?

PRAYER FOCUS

Use Revelation 19:16 as your prayer focus today.
