WEEKLY SCRIPTURE FOCUS

When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart. The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Luke 2:15-20

WORSHIP FOCUS

Worship God today as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

SUMMARY OF PRAYER

Father, forgive me for those times when I have lived as through this world were the only kingdom. Forgive me for those times when I have not anticipated Your return; when I have not hoped in You. Give me the wisdom to live for Your kingdom. Fill this world with the knowledge of Who You are and what You have done, and give me a longing for the day when I will see You face to face.

Wednesday, Day 3 - Kings and Kingdoms

DAILY SCRIPTURE

When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother; and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him. Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Matthew 2:10-11 (NIV)

DAILY THOUGHT

The visit of the magi took place sometime after the birth of Christ in a house in Bethlehem when Herod was in power. Their visit and their gifts complete the Christmas story.

It seems that until the visit of the magi, Mary and Joseph's newborn drew little attention. But Herod was concerned when he heard the magi's question. History describes Herod as an overly suspicious man who later in life became a murderous man. Even here he was deceptive, appearing to help when treachery was his true motive. But God would let nothing happen to His Son. And so the kings detoured to circumvent danger.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

What journeys will you be making over the new year and how might you be open to the detours that God will use to form you?

How could you look to God to help you deal with the threatening situations in your life?

How might God be using even those people who are responding negatively to you?

PRAYER FOCUS

Bring your gifts to Him today. Worship and praise Him for the difficult circumstances in your life.
